longer saddle screws needed - please help (shortscale Tele)

Post by Fernando »

69 Thinline Tele body + Duo Sonic neck in need for longer saddle screws for correct intonation

I have a shortscale project that is sadly frozen because of 3 screws missing
I'd be very grateful if someone can help please.

As can be seen in the picture I need longer screws for the saddles
Original screws measure around 3mm diameter, but being Fender I guess they have an imperial size/gauge: do you know their specs?
Longer screws should be very easy to find in USA, but I'm in Spain and need some help please.

BRIDGE / SADDLES PICTURE: (can't embed the picture correctly)
http://photos.app.goo.gl/bNc471vrBlwHwJ6L2

The project is a Squier 69 Thinline Tele body and a Squier Duo Sonic neck
plus a Fender Telecaster USA 62 RI bridge + pickup which has the characteristic threaded saddles, for which I need the longer screws.
I can't intonate correctly unless I have the saddles closer to the neck, that's why I need longer screws.
Original saddle screws at it's maximum length is not enough. I guess I need 10mm longer screws to be safe.

Please can you help?
I need to know the specs of screws in Fender Telecaster USA 62 RI bridge (Fender 005-6069-TSB),
and then get same specs but longer screws x 3

Project background:
I already have a Squier Duo Sonic I love. I bought a second neck for it, as a back-up.
Then got a good-priced Squier 69 Thinline Tele body, tried the Duo Sonic neck on it and thought it looked and played great.
Then bought a Fender USA 62 RI bridge + pickup assembly (Fender 005-6069-049) for this project.
This pickup and saddles combination sound great, very special, so I need it intonates correctly, because of the shortscale Duo neck.
So, please help if you can! : ) thank you

looks sweet. always wondered if this would work to be honest

first lets figure out where you are.

are you in Spain currently?

im more than willing to help but mailing 3 screws 8000 miles across an ocean might be cost prohibitive

I thought my location was visible at left.
Yes, I'm in Spain. They can be sent for $4

Anyway the most important is to find out the specs and then look for longer ones.

I asked Fender about specs. They may be 6-32 screws 1-1/4 long and then getting them 1-3/4 long be fine.
Let's see if someone can help with specs

CUR is a user here or a web shop?

ive never shipped anything to spain before so i figured i would pop in some numbers. i made my fictious box 2x2x2 inches. (really small) and made it weigh 1 pound.

this is what i got.

not saying you are wrong with your $4 estimate for shipping, im just saying this is what "i got"

thanks for helping
you can ship 3 screws in an envelope as a letter for $4 or so
Anyway, when I know original screw specs I may find it on eBay for nuts incl. shipping.

The important bit of this thread is finding out the specs of the intonation screws in Fender Telecaster USA 62 RI bridge (Fender 005-6069-TSB)

What I did was buy three Wiliknson Tele compensated brass saddles, then bought longer M3 screws......not the cheapest solution, but you get nice brass saddles too!......

Thank you, good to know Wilkinsons use metric screws. If I can't solve it in some other way that could be a solution.

But I'd like to use the original threaded saddles on this bridge because I think they add something to the sound.
I guessed what the size of the screws is and ordered longer ones on eFly, they should arrive soon and I'll report back.

short after writing my response the new screws arrived!

They are #6-32 and 1-1/2 inch long and they seem to work: in a rough test the guitar seems to intonate fine. Yeeeha!

I'll confirm and tell for sure in the next days

I'm glad you got this worked out. Do you have pictures of the finished build?

I still have to repaint the body (mate white) and make a pickguard (glue some material over an actual pickguard)
I wanted to make sure it intonated correctly before proceeding

I will post pictures for sure!
