NMNGD Xmas guitar

Post by Thomas »

I picked up a guitar to give to a friend of mine for is Xmas. He’s the sort of person who always outs others ahead of himself so I thought it’d be nice to treat him since he wouldn’t splurge on himself.

It’s an Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor. Tasty little example and one I’d heartily recommend if you’re in the market for a jazz box with modern appointments. This one has had the tailpiece changed out.

I also picked up a wee Vintera 60s Mustang for myself.

The Epiphone looks gorgeous and as a proper top of the line guitar it is with the same headstock as Sheraton. The Vintera-stang looks super slick, congrats!

Cheers! I’m looking forward to restringing?setting up the ‘stang (the latest in a long line of them as I never seem to play them as much as I love the styling 😂) who knows how long this one will last.

I’m going to set up and tidy up the Epiphone to drop off tonight. He’s been after something like this for a while so I’m looking forward to seeing his reaction!

Lovely gesture, I hope he enjoys it.

On the subject of mustangs, I seem to recall you bought one of mine a few years back? Whatever happened to it?

He'll remember this and will be forever grateful to you. I think we all as guitarists value guitars beyond their financial value. That's really nice of you as a friend to do that ((thumup)

I handed it over to him tonight. He’s over the moon so I’m very happy with the outcome. He’s a great guy and has had a bit of a shit time over the past couple of years but keeps plugging on.

Yes indeed red 1974 one about 6-8 years agoI believe. One of my pals has it currently. A strangely heavy guitar for its diminutive size.

When I split from my long time partner a couple of years ago I had to sell off most of my music gear. I’ve slowly been building it back up over time.

Ah well, after a day of attempting to bond with the guitar he decided it’s really not for him and rather than send it to live in a case under his bed he has returned it to me. Foiled again!!

Oh no. I thought this was (still is) a really lovely gesture.

I suppose it’s better that he let you know though and didn’t just put it away, never to be used.

I suppose that's always the risk you take with personal gifts like this...I'm not considering him ungrateful, probably the opposite. Can you return it or are you going to keep it for a bit?

He’s definitely not ungrateful. I knew this was a risk when I got it. He’s been on somewhat of a search for a guitar as he feels he’s not getting what he needs from the ones he has. He’s sorta come to the conclusion that his LP is the closest he can get to being content (and he has one).

I’m not out anything, I traded an amp (that I wasn’t really using) for the guitar. I’ll most likely trade it out for something else. Maybe I’ll start just trading for a random guitar every time, then drop it off to see if I can find his Excalibur! Tho I think his ideal guitar would be the Les Paul equivalent of that Sag `dots got lately, only with a Floyd and splittable humbucker. As far as I know such a creature does not exist in nature.

I’ll maybe mess with it for a bit i have a few superb hollow/semi hollow guitars already.
