NGD: Vintera Mustang

Post by Reece »

Hey shortscale, been a while (again).

I've been eyeing up mustangs for a while. Went down to GAK in Brighton last weekend to "have a look". You know how that goes.

I love the finish, it's made me realise every guitar I've owned is on the brown end of the spectrum.

It had a fuckin awful factory setup. Tailpiece and bridge both slammed on the plate, no neck relief, buzzing and clanging all over the place. After a setup I've got it playing well enough for now. The neck is great, narrower but thicker than my Jag.

It definitely needs a lil something though. Black guard? Knurled knobs? Sanded off finish and an empty neck pickup route?. Maybe.

All the Mustangs I have ever seen in stores are never setup properly.

Mustangs are super easy to install the Vibrato and the bridge, but a setup requires more knowledge and time.

The Mustang Vibrato is underrated and most people think they suck because they are never setup properly.

I am sure it's cost thing, but it seems ridiculous to me to charge over $1000 for a guitar and not do a proper setup.

Great to see you!

Mustangs should have Mustang knobs. But then, I'm a bit funny about guitars having the "wrong" knobs.

A black guard would look great, I reckon. I think it would be a pretty dramatic change, that it would probably make the blue appear darker too and make the whole thing moodier. Black guard and angry duncanz?

I generally hate tort, but wonder how that would look. Does anyone make gold Mustang guards?

Nice. That's a nice blue. I don't know how Squier dared calling the limited CV model "lake placid blue" as well...

A Gold anodized Mustang pickguard would be amazing.

What do you call a Mustang without knobs? A gelding!

Sorry, drove 12 hours today…

I like it as it is. WD music makes all kinds of gold pickguards but mother of toilet seat fits that colour so well I think it's the best match
