Incoming NGD: Gretsch Jim Dandy

Post by Freddy V-C »

I've been playing guitar around the house a lot more lately, but I haven't owned an acoustic in about 4 years (!!!) and I can rarely be arsed with an amp at home. So I've been daydreaming about a nice parlour guitar I can keep next to the sofa, and of course the Gretsch Jim Dandy is the number one choice for style-over-substance dickheads such as myself (although I would have strongly considered one of these bad lads if the current wait time wasn't ten whole months). I'm not particularly excited by any of the current Gretsch colour options, so I thought I'd at least have a look at some second hand ones, not expecting to find anything lurid (or at least not for a good price).

Lo and behold, this toxic green monstrosity had quite literally been listed the very same day. And now it's on its way to me.

Delivered to the office this morning. The paint chips are a little bit worse than they looked in photos on Reverb, but I don't mind too much because it'll just make me feel less precious about leaving it in the living room.

Plays like a dream, and I'm really impressed by how full it sounds and how well intonated it is considering the size. Already come up with a couple of little ditties in between work meetings.

I used to have one of these, great little guitar. Lovely sound, surprisingly full for a small acoustic. It was nice for messing around with different tunings.

Also I just watched a YouTube of this dude wrapping rubber around the bridge and using one of those 10 dollar guitar fettish pickups. He turned it into a Lo-Fi recording machine.

I think it's a limited edition colour from like a decade ago. The colour was pretty much the main factor in me buying this, honestly.
