Sunn Amps Are Back???

Post by kingkiller »

Plops sharing stories of his friend with a Sunn amp on the zoom call last Saturday must have been some sort of incantation… because I guess I bunch of people licensed the Sunn name from Fender and are going to produce amps again

This could be very exciting!

Somewhere I have a picture of one of the first Sunn bass amps from a guitar show.

I'd forgotten Fender owned the name. I remember Sunn Mustang guitars from when I was a kid.

Ouch! Yes but I think they’re going to be more boutique quality then the current cheap amp quality.

the beta's are around the same price as current boutique versions, but with less output:

personally not interested unless they put out a 300 watt Model T that will never leave my house.

Yeah 3 big ones for a tube amp is definitely a pipe dream for me but I’m sorely tempted by the solid states. Though I’ve looked at Hilbish Design stuff as well, and was considering going that route before these were announced.

Yeah, I've always thought Sunn were some quirky solid state amps from the 70s or 80s, not super boutique tube amps.

A lot of people are complaining about the eye watering prices, but I sort of think this is the right approach. Sunn should be making boutique valve monsters, not anything boring or average. I'd never be in the market for one anyway, so it sort of doesn't matter to me, but I'd have thought the sensible market space to occupy is in there with Matamp, Orange etc.

To be fair the solid state prices are reasonable-ish. I think when I first looked I saw the price of the tube heads and immediately closed the window, my bad.

I scrolled past the tube ones immediately, as I was looking for solid state, then I scrolled back up to the tube amps and had the same reaction, but not until after I’d posted the LANK
