NGD (project)

Post by plopswagon »

I went to a weird “estate sell” which was full of all kinds of junk. Lots of beat up stereo equipment of questionable usability and lots of really shitty guitars.

This one was a the least shitty and $15.00

HELL yes.
That shit on the pickguard will buff off, the rest looks solid and chuckable, should be great fun. You should enlarge the route and put one of these in:

Haven't found a Rutles in the wild at an estate sale yet!

These are generally crap, but I like the fretwork practice and pickup testbed idea. Drill the pickup route all the way through the body and rig up a clamp so you can load pickups in from the back without the need to remove/loosen strings.

I think I have a Russian pressing of a Rutles album somewhere.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

I like the look of the guitar. If the neck is straight, it can't be terrible. I'd strip the body and painted it some fun colour.

I can’t tell if the neck is straight because the frets are so wack. I set it pretty straight and it was fretting out at the 5-7th frets.

It’ll be fun to figure out without having to worry about any fuck ups. I liked Nick’s idea of making a rear access for swapping pickups.

Those fret rulers with gaps for frets are good for setting up the neck straight.
