NGD: Squier Debut Stratocaster

Post by Progrockabuse »

Currently nursing an injured ankle at the moment and getting a bit fed up with being stuck at home. Wifey decided to cheer me up by getting me one of these to mess around with.

Essentially Amazon and fender have teamed up to make a range of guitars that replace the old bullet ranges. Slightly thinner bodies than a normal bullet/sonic or affinity series but it’s satin finish which I quite like.

Lower tone pot is wired to control the bridge pickup as well, which I wish all strats did from the factory. Satin finish on the neck too. Thinking of an aged guard and some better tuners, maybe a saddle swap to some bent vintage style ones. Out the box though, sounds and plays really good. Trem and trem block feels lightweight, so might grab a heavier block for it. It’s pre routed for neck and bridge humbuckers too.

For £129, can’t really will go that wrong.

just saw its debut series. Curious if they come out with a tele. I am wanting a cheap tele to mod. But either way, 119 USD for a strat is awesome and I like that red color (do not normally like red guitars) HMM. I see a red strat with anodized gold guard and maybe some lipsticks in my future. New saddles, block, and tuners if needed. :)

Affinities also have thinner bodies. I haven't tried any new ones, but if I wanted a new strat I'd buy that coral pink Sonic Strat and if I wanted a tele the purple humbucker equiped Sonic Esquier

I like the colour on this one. I remember a Cort strat in this colour that hung in the local shop for some time years ago

We're still getting shafted on guitar prices in the UK then.

It’s been a few days, I’ve had chance to give it a few hours abuse. The pickups are surprisingly good, if a little bright/brittle. Glad the tone is wired for the bridge to tame it a little. No sharp frets and no dead spots so far. Tuners are a little all or nothing in terms of movement.

I just love the finish, weight feels nice on a strap. Forgotten how much I love Dakota red. Going to echo my old mustang and fit some white tipped Kluson tuners and maybe a pearl or mint guard to it. Tempted to keep the electrics as they are for now and just change the plastics.
