Synth style filter pedal help?

Post by Hurb »

So I need some suggestions.
I currently use a kangra filter fuzz by walrus audio connected to an expression pedal for filter sweeps needed during certain songs. It's fine and may be the best a man can get. But I kinda Invision something self contained in expression/wah style enclosure. I don't really use the fuzz side of the pedal so it's taking up space. Trouble is I don't think I want a wah wah. In my head I want the kind of filtering that are used in synths or maybe more specifically a Roland TB 03. Think like acid house music or techno. So a treadle type pedal with resonance and cut off controls etc Is this available for us guitarists?

If you have any ideas holla!

Tycobrahe wah pedals do this lovely (if spenny): Wilson do a Freaker which is a copy. I'd really like one.

Out of interest, have you tried the filter on the Ottobit on an exp pedal? If memory serve, it gets pretty gnarly.

This looks pretty ideal!

Yeah it's a beautiful filter! Unfortunately I use my current filter with a different fuzz. In the same song as I use the ottobit as a different fuzz. So I would kinda need two to make it work. Or presets and expression on the ottobit.

First, great idea. I can say that a proper Low pass filter makes a HUGE difference compared to a wah, especially with a resonance control. I wanted to put our Happiness pedal in a wah enclosure SO BAD but the parts were expensive and shitty from our suppliers. Never panned out, obviously.

Yeah I saw that. I would be happy with either but trying to find one in this country is proving tricky.

This place does actual synth filters in pedals:

http://www.ftelettronica.com/

But none of them are expression pedals, and, weirdly, none have expression pedal inputs, either, I think?

They do a resonant filter pedal that does have control voltage input minijacks, but how you'd get those to work with an expression pedal I don't know.

Cheers gang. I will definitely think about these in the future however I done and went a different route.
My pedals have been getting out of control and it's become a bit embarrassing tbh. So I have done and gone the modelling route. A good 80% of fashion tips tunes contain the zoom multistomps in some way or another. So it's not as if I am a analogue snob.
Been setting it up and I can get somewhere near to the filtering I was after using a combination of wah and filters blocks. Controlled with the express pedal.

I was wondering if a solution would look like this, but didn't suggest it because it sounded like you wanted a dedicated, small footprint fix.

Been meaning to dig out my pedalboard all week to see what can be done with stacked filters/wahs on the M13.

Yeah the only reason this worked out footprint wise is it's replacing loads of pedals rather than just one. Loving the switching possibilities. Making my life a lot easier hopefully!
This was the latest iteration which is why I needed to change!

Still of the opinion that every guitarist would be much happier if they just replaced their entire pedalboard with a RAT!

My little boy's growing up ๐Ÿฅน

lol kidding, but shoutouts to the HX MASSIVE.

Fucking love the Stomp on my board; does all modulation and reverb, and act as my amps at home, even with my dual signal setup thing. Best money I ever spent.

We will see how we go, but so far its fine. I use a couple of heavily gated fuzzes normally and I haven't got the hx to do it work in exactly the same way. But I am mostly using the fuzz factory clone which gets me close at least at home. Practice tomorrow will let me know if it really is ok. But I am hopeful!

Yeah Doog! I've wanted one for ages but the cost has really made it a scary purchase. I had wanted to replace the zoom but certain things it just couldn't do the same.
But yeah so far I really love it. I quite enjoy programming it and am using midi to switch the presets on the zoom too.
