NZJD

Post by benecol »

So it turns out that James and I, as well as living very close to each other, have also both got new guitars today. I don't want to steal his thunder (after all, it's lovely to have him back), so I'll just leave this here as a teaser before the reveal tomorrow...

NEW ZWAN JAGUAR DAY.

I've bored on before how I feel there's a dissertation in "Zwan would have been an amazing band were it not for that pesky Billy Corgan". Wossname the thunderdrummer from the Smashing Pipkins, Paz Lechantin, Matt Sweeney, Dave Pajo. What's not to like? Billy Corgan. But back in the mists of time when I bought the album (it was bad) from the reduced section in HMV for £2.99, it also had a DVD, and on that there was a montage of great guitars that have lived on in my cravings. Pajo playing a white SG (one day white SG, one day...) and Pajo playing a 70s blocks and bound maple neck Jag.

I've wanted one of these Vinteras since Fender reissued tham, and have been really missing having a Jag in my life (I always end up selling Jags to pay for bicycles, this has happened twice now). Swapped my Princeton for this one. Fella had had a Mastery fitted (and the thimbles changed out accordingly). I didn't rate the Mastery when I tried it on my Jazzmaster, but I really don't mind it on here at all. I normally put 12s on a Jag, but 11s are behaving perfectly and are a lot of fun. It's brilliant; super glossy "slide on the school hall floor in your socks" maple neck, the profile is quite rounded for a regular production guitar, the trem works great. The neck pickup is maybe clankier sounding and more trebly than I'm used to with a Jag (Jag neck is my favourite of all the pickups), but I'll play with pickup heights this weekend. Most useful and distinct rhythm circuit I've ever used too. And the big blocks on the neck remind me of the anonymity eye bars from Readers Wives porno mags. Hurrah!

Love a Jag neck pickup. And love the Rhythm circuit through fuzz.

Not that I'm going out of my way to make you jealous re: white SG, but...

(This was on long term loan, was considering buying but didn't actually rate it that much, managed to break the nut while I had it so that's currently being replaced and then I'm giving it back lol.)

This is gorgeous, though. Maple with blocks isn't something you see often enough IMO, and it's lovely. Somehow it seems to have escaped me prior to now that the Vintera II Jags are all maple with blocks. Interesting, very interesting...

Black and tort is always a classy combo. Lovely guitar.

Though now I am picturing a (fully dressed) woman in black hareem trousers, a pattern red silk shirt and privacy bar sunglasses.
Shabba.

I’ve wanted one of these since they released, but bought an expensive acoustic instead. Soon!
I love Jaguars!!
