what would you do to a super sonic (it arrived)

Post by sp3k »

I´m getting a black and white super sonic next week. I don't like white pickguards on black guitars, so what would you guys do? get a tortoise pickguard? paint the guitar white? get a green pearl guard (i'm loving this idea!!!)?
Also, i'm thinking of putting some new pickups on the guitar, i'm open to any suggestions, i just don't want to have another guitar with a humbucker on the neck...
Btw, how's the tremolo on these guitars? will it stay on tune?

edit. just realized this is in the wrong section, some one move this...

I think I'd put it in the Shortscales Forum instead of the All Other Guitars Forum, but that might just be me.

Probably not much use to you, but as I'm a lefty I'd do an Omar and flip it and move the control panel to the bottom.
Swap out the pups. Definitely go for a HB sized P90 in the neck. And would have to get a custom guard, probably brown tort.

Get a proper neck for it. I think they look cool apart from the reverse headstock.

I think this is the first time that I've ever seen Rob do a responsible mod type thing.

what's wrong with the neck?! i love the reversed headstock!

your ss looks really nice rob! What pickups are those? how's the tremolo?

lamp, that was actually my first idea, tort guard and a hb sized p90 for the neck. Does anyone know if gfs pickups are good? they have really good prices!
btw, where can i get a pickguard for it? only custom made? where? sorry if i'm bodering you guys with to much questions...

The GFS pickups are excellent, especially for their price. I would do Jag pickups, duncan 1/4lbs.
The guard will probably be a custom job where you send in the original and they duplicate it.
I would do white with a nice mint guard, possibly some bronco knobs, matching headstock, and white jag pickups

no experience with the bridge but i'd imagine if you keep enough springs innit to hold the bridge down it should be around the same quality as one on some mim strats or possibly better

Yeah, the white pickguard is ugly.
...and the neck is the best part! ha.

I'm considering routing it for full size p90s.
I've had a GFS Mean 90 in a cheap SG copy, it was pretty badass. I have no experience with any of their other pups.

The neck heel, or the pocket, or something like that makes it incompatible with other necks that are like it. So it isn't an easy replacement.

Black pickguard looks good. I'd consider going for white or chrome robroes. Chrome ones are expensive so I'd consider white first. You'll want something like bronco knobs too.

i kept the stock humbuckers in my supersonic because i liked them so much. I just sanded out the pickguard holes a little bit and poped the white plastic covers on top

yep. it's that neck or no neck at all... :(

You could fit any same neck scale on there if you wanted to enough.
