I have a rusty saw that I enjoy. I would love to own an optigon.

I have a 5-string banjo, but it gets played like a guitar. I can't get my head around banjo at all, it's a very odd instrument to me. I haven't really put the time in though. Currently play more mandolin than anything else.

Also noodle on lap steel in A6th tuning for that honky tonkin' Hank Williams sound.
everything is not going to be alright

The "spoil" button on the posting toolbar (ze white box, top left) is what you want, squire.

Some fool on Wikipedia wrote:Despite its use of recordings of actual musical instruments in lieu of internally generated sounds, the Optigan suffered from poor tonal quality due not only to the bandwidth limitations of its optical system but its mechanical system as well. The Optigan concept was really similar to that of the Mellotron (early sampling technology) but while the Mellotron used magnetic tape, the Optigan borrowed its technology from early film soundtrack technology. A optical strip contained the soundtrack on early films and the same technology (AM Modulation) was used on the optical discs in the Optigan. All modern (digital) sampling technologies use FM technology. And indeed the quality of the Optigan was more like that of AM Radio.
I think this is an appropriate moment to say
BULLSHIT

But what else would you expect of Wikipedia?

even if the quality is a bit grungey, that's what makes it good. why on earth would you want digital samples? might as well go the whole hog and buy some MIDI backing tracks of bette midler songs. fools!
