Janked up Stang at my local GC

Post by Pens »

I spotted it as i was paying for my SuperSonic. It needs some loave from a hard-working Shortscaler but it looked like a late 60's Mustang, fat neck and original bridge. If I were righty I would probably refin the body but that's about it. Check it out, it's for sale and I'm not buying it. You can get it from the online store.

That pickup ring looks awful.

It's odd, it's something that my common sense tells me to hate, and when I seen dots' Jaguar in the other thread, I was thinking about the pickup rings, then I realised that it looked fine and wasn't a problem, despite wanting to not like it.

That looks atrocious, though.

i'm not a fan of pickup rings myself, but you're right, on that guitar it works.

this mustang's neck pickup is atrocious. new guard and replacement pickup, and all will be right with the world.

fuck the routing. unless you're trying to flip the guitar for more cash, the pickguard covers whatever swimming pools were dug into the wood and doesn't mean a damn thing otherwise.

I told the guy I'd post the pic on a guitar forum of people who fucking love Mustangs and if anyone bought it they would give it some restore love. It has great action and all that, the neck is a bit thicker than my Jag neck but with a new guard and pickups it would be pretty fucking nice. Maybe a refin, but still. I'm just putting it out there in case anyone wants a crack at it and give it some love.

I told him I'd make sure it went to a good home. Have at it gents.

Pat.
DUDE this thing looks identical to that with a different neck pup/ring, and an extra switch which I assumed was for coil tap.

I may be crazy, but I'd play that as is. I like the neck humbucker/bridge single coil combo, although I'll admit I've never played a mustang with that configuration. Is the extra switch a coil tap? Any guesses about the original color? White switches with black pu cover?

It's beautiful! The finish is far too shiny, but that's an easy fix. Other than that it's perfect.

edit: I'd also want to swap out the neck for a Jaguar's. I dig the thinner profile, but not so much that wouldn't buy/play the guitar as it is.

also edit: if I had money, that is.
