Les Paul Studio

Post by NickS »

Apologies to Katie Perry - "I played a Les Paul, I liked it....it felt so wrong, it felt so right". Well, sort of.

So our bass player also plays guitar and has 21 left after he sold a few. He brought one of his Les Pauls to band practice and invited me to keep it for a couple of weeks. I guess it's a '92 Les Paul Studio. It has two badly-finished frets but otherwise plays nicely and sounds the business, if you're playing the sort of stuff this band has on its set-list.
► Show Spoiler
It's un-chambered so heavy as anything but I could definitely get used to it, and it's made me think about swapping the pickups on my V which are currently
a 496R Hot Ceramic pickup in the neck position and a 500T Super Ceramic in the bridge delivering smokin' tone
for something more classic, probably with metal covers.

I used to have one of those. Same color and year. Mine wasn't anything special, just alright.

I played a bunch of studios when I was looking into buying a Les Paul. They were all okay. I didn't really love anything about it but didn't really hate anything about it.

Les Pauls and Les Paul can take a flying jump onto my cock.

I've had one for ages (Studio+ 2003), and it breaks and breaks and breaks and breaks and breaks etc.... Until I claimed on my house insurance for it and got the money back.

Sounds lovely, not reliable at all. Not what I would spend £800 on ever again.

A friend of mine over here had that very color LP studio. Deadest sounding guitar I ever played, from day one.

Phat Cats later saved the day, but I still shudder at the thought of how retarded it sounded before then.

I think this has been discussed already and I didn't bother to chime in then, but it doesn't just break, does it? I would never put an £800 guitar where it could fall over. I wince when I see the owner of this guitar tuck his Ricky bass between the speaker cabinet and the wall instead of using a stand. Now, I'm not saying the difference between a Gibson and a Fender is like the difference between a Lamborghini and a Ford, but you're not likely to wreck a Mondeo going over a speed bump. It's a question of observing the well-known limitations, like not putting your nitro or conversion varnish finished guitar in a cheap guitar stand/hanger so the plasticiser damages the finish.

i play a GOTH studio and still don't really know. i'm adjusting and changing shit so much all the time it's hard to really make a strong opinion. the frets are the smoothest i have right now, so it is TOP DAWG.

im pretty much on the sure side of wanting one of these.
everyone would agree the finish on this one is "worn brown" as opposed to "worn cherry" right?
