NID!

New interface day!

Picked up an M-Audio 410 Firewire interface for 75 bones! It can record 2 simultaneous stereo tracks, or 4 mono at once. Awesome, got it all hooked up with my new monitors. I'm using a shitty patch cable and a guitar cable to connect the interface to the monitors TRS inputs, what kind of cable I should actually be using (link me)? Speaker cable?

Anyway, here's what my bedroom setup is:

I think that is correct. it is a line level connection so it shouldn't be speaker cable.

Seems the 410 has unbalanced outputs and the AV40 inputs are balanced. I can't remember exactly but it equates to 6db of gain either up or down if you have unbalanced -> balanced or vice versa. No massive difference.

Could the RCA's on the AV40s be unbalanced? Then you'd just need two jack to RCA adaptors to get the right gain.

And yeah, I think you want unbalanced cable.

Yeah the monitors are definitely quieter now.

I think this would do the trick:
