My guess the original build was based on a right-handed neck and a shitty plank for the body, kinda explains the black painted headstock?

Yeah. I'm guessing it was a paddle headstock or it was a reverse righty neck. That is exactly what I am going for but with a mustang style body. maybe a chrom humbucker cover and chrome knob would look better.

I like the initial design with the metal control plate. The metal plates are nice to use on Fender guitars. Makes it harder to break with your guitar cable in. (vs jacks mounted to plastic.) Easy to access and such.

I remember reading something that "Mustang" is actually a modified Bronco. But with a G&L bridge. The pickup is a Univox one.
