That's how it arrived. Gonna have it restrung when I drop it off at GC.
make sure to tell them how to string it proper. No offense to the Unknown GC employee but it's the sort of thing they might not know no matter how many Strats and LP types they do daily.

I couldn't deal with the strings, so I added a 3-pack of Ernie ball 10's to tonight's Primenow grocery order. Will restring at some point tonight.

Also, a friend of FB asked for pics of the routes, so I decided to post them here as well:

Lovely guitar. The routing looks nice and neat too. How is the intonation? Did they get the scale length spot on?

Perfect. Whoever did the work knew what they were doing.

Well, unfortunately, the story of this guitar ended on a bad note.

I took the neck off today to inspect a bit more, and there's a fairly deep crack on the bass side of the neck pocket. Not in the finish, but in the wood. And I could move it.

The guitar went in a gig bag, and I drove straight to GC. I mentioned that, the scratchy pot, and the hit or miss output hack. After asking about having it fixed under their 45 day guarantee, I was only offered the option to get a full refund. I asked to speak with a manager, explained that this was a valentine's gift, and I'd rather get it fixed, but no dice. It broke my heart, but I sent it back.

I told them to contact me after it's fixed, so I can try to buy it back. Whether or not they actually do that is up in the air.

In the meantime, if anyone here sees it appear on GC's used site, let me know. I want it back - just functional.

What really has me worried since getting back home is GC's reputation for tossing anything defective in the trash. I will be heartbroken if this guitar ends up in a dumpster.

That's sad.

Won't they sell it you back as spares or repairs?

I asked them if they would just fix it - injecting glue in a crack and touching up solder joints isn't hard. I just live in a tiny apartment with little room to work in.

They refused.

Now I'm checking GC's website hourly for my Jagmaster to come back up for sale.

I hate to say it but I don't hold much hope. You are probably better off checking their dumpster nightly.

Back when I used to work at the Albany location it seemed they never threw anything away - the repair cost was built into the used cost which meant we got less profit margin, or it was sold "as-is/scratch and dent" for a steep discount. Gear wasn't "totaled" if the cost to fix was more than profit margin, the store would just sell the items below cost to get rid of them and make something back. Now that Bain's bought them I really don't know how they conduct this business, they may have better insurance that allows for total loss of damaged gear. The store doesn't care that it is a very rare and tastefully modified guitar, they just care if they can make their money back somehow.

I spoke with the store manager - he said that it's flagged for repair, and he'll call me once it's fixed to give me first dibs in getting it back.

Fiancée got me something else to make up for this.

A plane ticket to PR for tomorrow and a hotel room

If I buy back the guitar, it'll be me buying it.

But tomorrow night, I will drink the good rum.

So... the thread lives.

And according to the manager at GC, the guitar still does. It's been fixed.

Then he told me that he never processed the refund, so I still own the guitar.

I'll stop by GC after work to check it out and pick it up.
