Ooh, late to post but: longhorns. I love longhorns. Reckon they look better as baritones (regular guitar necks look too short on them), and it was a baritone that I used to own. At first glance, they're fucking stupid looking, shaped like a lyre and all. But the ergonomics make a lot of sense, the outside curves mirror those of an acoustic guitar, and the whole styling is very George Barris. In addition to this, they're very well laid out: the bridge is right back by the body edge, so my old 30" scale Dano was the same size physically as my SG, and upper fret access is great (some of the regular guitars have 36 frets). And they sound amazing (admittedly, that's by virtue of the Dano construction, not the shape).

I'll not have another (non-vintage) Dano since Prop 8, but will one day own a Jerry Jones like this lovely one on eBay at the moment...

Does it get more oddball (shape wise) than a musicvox space ranger?

+1

But unlike some 60s MIJ it's meant to look kooky. The thing about a baritone is that it's based on the same double oval as an acoustic, which was cut into LP/Tele and later into Strat for greater reach. It looks unusual, but is almost practical

6 string longhorn is on my bucket list. Probably one I would get and never let go.

I was watching an episode of Sam and Cat with my little cousin and she said "look at that crazy guitar on the wall". They had a Musicvox on the wall.

I had one of the Hondo longhorns. It had a built in pre-amp

Aye, they're lovely - the ergonomics are actually fantastic; everything is where you'd expect to find it (the complete opposite of an SG, much as I love them), and with kerr-azy upper fret access.

The Danelectro ones look fine, but that Hondo! There's only about an inch and a half gap between the end of the fretboard and the bridge, most of which is taken up by the pickup. Where do you strum!?

:?: Anywhere you fancy between your left hand and the bridge? You're one of these strict strum-over-the-scratchplate cats are you?
