$1000 to blow at MF, what to get?

Post by Dingus »

So I was out of town this weekend for a business meeting and a Banquet, which turned out to be an Awards Ceremony where I got an Award and a $1000 gift certificate to Musicians Friend (they were looking to get a more personalized gift). I'm good with it, because if they gave me cash it counts as a gift and taxes takes like 40% or 60% I can't remember. Anyway, what should I buy? Here are my thoughts:

1) +$400 and get an AV62 RI Jaguar

2) +$400 and get an AV62 RI Jazzmaster

3) $160 leftover and get a J. Mascis Jazzmaster

4) $300 leftover and get a '65 RI Mustang

5) $300 leftover and get '72 RI Tele Deluxe

6) $500 leftover and get a Strat with a Floyd Rose (and rock out on Toadies songs for like a year)

7) $ 10 leftover and buy (2) Blues Junior Amps

8) +$50 and get a Gibson Explorer

9) +$169 and get a HOLY SHIT when did they reissue a Gibson RD! in Silverburst none-the-less (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=515665)

10) $350 leftover and get a 50s RI Esquire

Thoughts?

Any leftover cash will probably go toward getting a Boss RE-20 and/or Uni-vibe Foot Pedal for my Dunlop Univibe

Oh, and I didn't want to make this a poll until I got down to like 3 choices to keep it simple.

Thanks!

Also if anyone wants to trade a guitar plus money for the gift certificate I might be down as well, lord knows I still want a Bronco.

with the exception of the floyd rose, they all seem like good ideas. I'd say go for the jaguar or jazzy if you really want one becuase it will be alot easier down the road to save up for a $6-700 guitar than to save up for the $1400 one.

If it were me I would get the AVRI Jazzmaster, but that's only because I already have a Jaguar that I'm happy with.

Yeah I think I'm leaning toward the AVRI Jaguar right now actually. Especially since MF no longer carries the Ice Blue Metallic paint job for the Jazzmaster, not to say that is what I would get a Jag in, but it was definitely a nice looking Jazzmaster finish. On the other hand, I can much more likely see myself buying a Japanese Jag later on then a JM. Although on the same token I know a Jag would be much more useful to my actually playing in terms of fiddling with switches and rollers, and I absolutely LOVE some of the tone that Sterling Morisson had with a jag. Such tough decisions.
