dots wrote:having owned two guitars in the american deluxe series, i can tell you they're worth it to me. but then again, i don't mind paying a few bucks more for the better instrument, and yeah, i think on the whole that vintage and deluxe series are better instruments. you can probably make an argument that the american standard series isn't as great, i couldn't care less as i've never bought one. hating on things simply because they cost more is pretty elitist. . . kinda like that effects thread where the indie kids were hassling that dude for using different equipment. wtf does it matter? if you can't tell the difference, that's your problem. i definitely could feel/hear the differences between the other strats and the american deluxe i ended up buying years ago.

active electronics are indeed different when it comes to bass sounds, as is the comparison between tube and solidstate amps. the tonal differences between bass and guitar are probably the reason for that.
+1. i'm sorry but there's a little something that is being ignored that makes those expensive instruments worth every penny: craftsmanship. a factory churned out squier will never feel the same as an american deluxe. sorry rob(og), but a good setup on a squier will never make it feel as good or better than my amdel jazz bass.

now, i couldn't afford another one now; and i'm willing to play less expensive instruments. hell, my two guitars are mexican standards. but i'm not going to be told that my american deluxe jazz bass isn't an AMAZING instrument, top to bottom.

as far as active electronics go: fuck all the haters. it sounds ah.may.sing.

The craftsmanship that takes the body curves and makes them uglier can suck my balls.

lol. see, i think the curves are sexy on the amdel, and they're kinda "chubby girl with a pint of gin" on the MIM Jazz Basses

I like my highway one tele. I had an older model with medium jumbo frets that I really liked and then just recently bought a newer model one with the jumbo frets and I love it.

Its just your basic telecaster setup with the 3 pole bridge adjustment..

My TOTAL dream guitar is the japaneese 62' reissue telecaster..
Totally, if I could get 500 pounds Id buy it not even thinking..
Its just my favorite guitar, for the cosmetics and the twangy sound and all..
Its just beautiful..

Second place would be the 72' Telecaster (like the one Mike has)..
