if you painted a body without prepping it. no sand and sealer or primer, just sanded and color and clear?

so wait, sanding or no sanding?
you said no sanding, and then you said if you just sanded.
if its maple/primavera/basswood, and i think poplar as well, all you need to do is sand to about 400.00 and then you can paint.
thats what i did on my tele anyway.
i was taught to not to use primer at all and just sand really well and use burn in sealer.
if you tried that with ash/mohogany, or some pores wood like that, then you are asking for trouble.
all sorts of pits and stuff.

It will look homemade. You can cut plenty of steps, but even Gibson does prep on their exposed grain guitars. They don't fill cracks, but they sand and seal. Is there a look you want, or just curious? Some of those steps are a drag, but they are so worth it, even if you beat the thing up after.
