Thinking About Having my Jazzmaster Refinned

Post by benecol »

So, as the title suggests, I'm thinking of having my Jazzmaster refinished. I've always loved Shell Pink most of all, but there are a couple of other options I love deeply as well. Since these threads seem to descend into out-and-out chaos and fisticuffs almost immediately, I thought what better time to start one? Mike, you'd better look away now...

So here's my Jazzmaster as it is - Surf Green AVRI with a brown tort guard:

Second up - the majesty of the Shell Pink Jazzmaster:

... but wait - are you sure you wouldn't prefer Burgundy Mist Metallic?:

And in the best tradition of daytime property programmes, which I've been watching a lot of during my recent affliction, here's the wildcard - Ocean Turquoise Metallic:

Shortscale, I would very much value your opinion on this one, but please be aware that I may well completely ignore it.

Mad props to the Offset cru for the use of their Dressing Room.

They all look entirely wank but the pink is the least offensive. You're only doing this because you know it's not real Nitro now, aren't you?

You massive tart.

I really can't stress how ridiculous both those gaudy "Aunt Dancing Drunk In The Living Room At Xmas" Metallic examples are.

Now I am aware that taken in context this will seem like a massive fib, but I've always planned to have it refinned Shell Pink. I solemnly swear on the shortscale wiki.

I say either as-is or shell pink. If you do shell pink, stick with the tort. It looks classier then the white.

i'd say leave it and change the guard, the brown tort looks like the product of an ulcerated bowel.

but yes, i'm with the majority- if you absolutely have to, go with the pink.

Leave it you fool. I had a Surf Green Jazzy and its easily one of the best colours AND most sought after.
But, out of the colours you want i would go with Shell Pink (if you insist with this) as it is different. I had a Burgundy Mist Jag and it is super sexy but can look brown under stage lighting (eww). OTM is okay, but could quite easily be an Ibanez/yamaha/Fernandes colour... yawn.

They're all great colours. The only solution, buy five jazzmasters. I say five, because everyone needs a Raven Black jazzmaster. Its the tuxedo of jazzmaster colours.

I'm with Fran here.

A prized surf green guitar in one's collection deserves to stay as it is for looks (and value's) sake, and I'd just just snag a white pickguard if I got bored with it from time to time.

ah just leave it, looks nice as is and you could fuck it up and not get it back to how it is

Thanks for all your responses so far, very interesting. Just a couple of things; Haze, I'd be getting a pro to do it, especially after realising how much drudgework goes into a refin when I did my tele, so no worries about fouling it up. And Stewart; fuck you.
