Rickenbacker: Close Encounter of the 3rd Kind

Post by westtexasred »

last night I saw this video of the Jam.I was always a fan of Rickenbackers since I saw the Beatles and the Byrds on TV in 1960's but I never actually saw one in person until I went to see The Jam at CBGB's Theater in 1978.

I was a big fan of theirs because they played Rickenbackers and I was fully expecting to see Paul with a Black Rick 330 that night because the cover of the "In The City" LP I owned was in black and white.Anyway, when the Jam took the stage they were wearing matching camel-hairsuits and Paul and Bruce had matching "blonde" Rickenbackers( I didn't know the names of the Rick colors back then).

My buddy Andy was working at Philip Morris then and he scored us great tickets for the show(3rd row). I remember this guitar vividly.I have searched on the internet for photos of this guitar but I have only found a couple of small ones then last night while surfing youtube I found this video showing the very guitar that made such a big impression on me over 30 yrs ago.

This is the guitar in the video
