your signature series guitar

Post by matthoj »

now that we tackled your dream guitar, how about if you got to walk into... say fender's custom shop to deisgn your own signature series guitar? how would it go?

mustang body. with the contours. single route for bridge humbucker. that's it.
put that seymour duncan p-rail in there. single volume knob ala tophat. the kinda three way knob from the squier 51 to switch the p-rails.
the toronado's hardtail bridge with better saddles.
neckwise would go with an oldschool mustang type or jaguar. never got all that into tuning pegs, so whatever kind, the ones on mustangs and jags work fine for me.
let's go with binding and big block inlays, and ebony for the fretboard.
that black glitter paint job on that super-expensive jag a few posts back is pretty hot. with a 5 ply black pickguard cut either like the squier musicmaster or say an sg jr-style...
throw some trustworthy straplocks on there... black...

I would have Ovation make me a brand new Tornado....blocked and bound in a nice fireglo finish with hi lo trons and a bigsby style trem. However considering they haven't made that guitar in over 30 years I don't see it happening.

Maverick body(Sherwood Green with red tort pickguard)
25.5" scale with large CBS headstock, dot inlays, bound fretboard, and matching headstock.
Bronco trem
JM pickups(Jag pickups if the JM ones looked really stupid)
Jag wiring minus the rhythm circuit
white witch hats

shiiiiiiit, why do i have an answer for this question...

now it's probably a shortscale jazzmaster with jag pups. surf colors, matching headstock, 3 way toggley. japanese. *splooge*

used to be (a month ago) daphne telecaster with contours and vintage bridge and hotrail, and some dope ass lipstick tube.

used to be (a year ago) 3T sunburst 62RI strat (hardtail) with vintage noiseless neck/mid and hot noiseless bridge on mint, RW w/smallest radius possible on strat.

fuck it, i'd have all three.

That's a lipstick humbucker in the neck. Everything is rear-routed.

If I could have anything, I'd just go for a U1. This would be my Fender-flavor choice.

black
Squire M-80 Body
Matching M-80 headstock
ebony fretboard
tune-o-matic
jag trem
SG-ish pick guard, green pearl
set neck, 24.75 scale
a hot distortion humbucker in bridge
p-90 neck
Single volume knob (tele custom knob)
Second knob to act as a spin-a-split for bucker, push/pull for phase reversal (chicken head knob)

That's at the moment...

Gibson thunderbird with the pickup, controls and headstock of a MM stingray. Would need a lot of work to keep the neck dive to a minimum and the funk-itude to a maximum, but totally worth it.

Or a maple neck musicmaster bass with a '51 P-bass pickup

I suppose it would be my dano.

But I would never want it to go into production. I just don't think that danelectro could do it justice.
