Fender Jaguar HJG-66KC VI (Japanese Market Only)

Post by estaban22 »

Hey,

Have you guys ever played one of those Japanese import Fender Jaguar's that are pretty much an exact replica of Kurt Cobain's Jaguar? I just bought one from a guitar shop in Japan and it's freaking sweeet! Here are the specs:

BODY : ALDER
NECK : MAPLE OVAL TYPE, 305-SCALE, Bound neck
FRET BOARD : ROSEWOOD, 22FRET (duh)
P.U : DIMARZIO PAF(Front), SUPER DISTORTION(Rear)
CONTROL : 2VOL, 1TONE / PRESET VOL&TONE, 3POINT TOGGLE SW
TREMOLO : TUNE-O-MATIC & FLOATING TREMOLO
YEAR OF MANUFACTURE : 2006-2008

Just wanted to get anyone's input who owns or plays one of these regarding effective mods etc... thanks!

Here is a link to the rest of the pics if you'd like to take a look: http://s953.photobucket.com/albums/ae12 ... 66KC%20VI/
Guitars:

2004 Fender Cyclone HH (Orange) w/ coil taps
1985 Fender Jazzmaster w/Lollars, mustang bridge and buzzstop
2008 Fender Telecaster Standard (Candy Cola Red)
2008 Fender Jaguar HJG-66KC VI
2009 Fender Stratocaster Standard

From KC; sweet. Cool guitar - it is not exactly my cup of tea with the extra knobs, humbuckers, and different switch but it looks a fun guitar for sure.

I'm liking the bound and dot neck and that mid/late 60s almost bullseye burst look.

Were these actually made by Fender, or modified by someone else?

Fender. They make all kinds of interesting models and colour schemes etc that don't usually get exported outside of Japan.

here's the mustang model. nothing especially fancy or different from what countless people did to their mustangs. still neat none the less.

*To the best of my knowlege*
These are 'dealer modified' new CIJ guitars.
Ikebe sell (and mod?) these, I think.

I think this subject has been done a few times before, with the Jag and Mustang.

I would still love to have one though...

Your knowledge is wrong. Fender Japan make them like that. It would be prohibitively expensive to put binding onto a non-bound neck that had already been fretted.

These are defnitely stock. There are a few variations but they're all very close to this.

im pretty sure the reason they don't sell these in the US is that they would have to pay courtney a boatload of cash

Why? To make a guitar that they make that her dead husband played, after Fender made it?

Fender should sell it in the US and make Courtney pay a boatload of cash. That would make as much sense.

Sorta off topic here, but is there an easy way to get a 3 way switch like that on my Jaguar? I love my Jag, but I really think a 3 way toggle like that would make my life easier.

This guitar is fender japan stock.
The mustangs with bridge humbucker are dealer modified. You can see the extra hole in the PG where they have just routed out the original PG. Also, they put the humbucker in the wrong place in the mustangs, its too close to the bridge. There should be a pickguard screw between the humbucker and bridge but the dealer modified ones dont usually have this as the placement is all fucked up.

The neck humbucker on this guitar should be closer to the neck too. Its a similar styled guitar to Cobain's, but a very different looking guitar indeed with the color tones and parts placement/type/materials etc. It wouldn't surprise me if it sounded basically identical though, not in the least, and it probably does!
