I fucking love free guitars

Post by mkt3000 »

I'm drunk... Just got home. Client owes me money, offers me a guitar to lower the amount owed. I see what it is, it's a G&L Strat! Dude bought it last year and just put it in a closet. Needs new strings and a cleanup... Pics tomorrow- imma sleep

He's a violent drunk, he already smashed it last night... he's gonna be confused when he wakes up to wood splinters all over the house in the morning

I'm back.. and awake. Sort of. I had a nasty ass hangover this morning. And there was a random gig bag in the corner of my bedroom.

Last night I drove to San Juan to see some friends and visit my parents. We went out for drinks, and I ran into a client of mine who owed me some money. We spoke for a bit, and he knows I play guitar, so he told me he had a guitar he didn't play and wanted to know if I could work something out. We went to his house, and while I poured myself a drink of his liquor, he left and came back with a gigbag. I opened it up and it was a G&L Tribute S-500. I thought it was black (I since discovered it's blueburst... kinda hard to see in the dark). I took the guitar in return for a 50% discount in the debt (he owed me $600, now he owes me $300). My dad taught me this strategy when a client who owed him money gave him the title to his yellow Corvette convertible.

The guitar literally had been used for 3 lessons, and was in a closet since. The action was a bit high, the strings were rusty, and it was completely out of tune.

Fast forward to today... I woke up, went to firehouse subs to clear my mind with a Steak and Grease sandwich doused in hot sauce. Then I drove to Best Buy, bought a pack of strings and some picks (I'm not about to spend $10 on a set of Ernie Ball slinkie 10's from the local guitar shop); then to Ace Hardware to buy a phillips head screwdriver and wire cutters.

Now the action is nice and low, and the guitar plays like a dream with new strings. Sadly, I don't have an amp cause I'm at my parent's house for the weekend, so I been able to plug it in. If I like it, I keep it- if not, I'll sell it or trade it for a bass.

Nice guitar but I would sell it and get some cash or trade it for a bass.

Nice guitar!

But, it wasn't "free". :?

Sounds to me like you paid $300.00 for it.

LOL. Nah, I forgave $300 out of $600 that I was owed for it. And to be fair, if the client had asked me nicely, I would've discounted the amount he owed anyway.

Do like. Do an demo.
G&L is one of the few brands i've never tried, always fancied one of those ASAT Tele's though.
