NGD! - Olympic White VM Jaguar *now with pics*

Thanks to lank81, I finally got an Olympic White Jaguar on my way! According to the USPS tracking site, it should be here by tomorrow, and I hope it is, since it's been sitting in sorting since the 12th.

I just got it! It's great. Kinda sad he didn't send the tremolo bar, but for the price I got it at, it's worth it.

However, there's to be a loud hum when I'm not touching the strings or any metal parts. To make sure it was the guitar and nothing else, I plugged in my Strat and got a tiny amount of hum on the single settings and no hum from the in between settings. On the Jag, it's hummy on the neck and bridge positions and even worse when they're both on. How do I fix this?

have you tried yelling at it? how about pouring beer on it?
is there any place you could put some duct tape on it?
honestly sounds like a ground issue or some sort. does the buzz change when you touch the bridge. trem plate, control plate etc.

Yeah, touching metal kills the hum. I figured it was grounding. How do I fix it though?

sounds like the ground is probably missing from the bridge

can always do something like on a jazz bass for the meantime. the ground is snaked from the bridge pickup cavity to the bridge



try threading one up from the lead control cavity, under the plate and then under the nearest bridge cup or really snake it round to under the trem plate. my brat has one.

just make sure the pots, or rater the plate that touches the pots/jack is grounded to the rest of the plates/bridge.
if the hum dies when you touch it, but the strings still come thru, don't worry about it. how often will you be playing the guitar without touching it.

since its a jag. i would also recommend taking a brokn high e string and putting it under the control plate to the nearest bridge post. i did this for one of my jags as a temp fix and it ended up lasting the life of the guitar while i had it (couple of years anyway)

I had a similar issue on my Squier Mustang just to do with excessive noise all the time...

.... it seemed is was to do with the switch housing touching the conductive paint on the cavity and then not grounding as a whole.... or somethin'

To fix, I wrapped a wire around a screw and screwed it to the main cavity and then fed the wire through into the lower cavity and sandwich'd the wire between the body and control plate. Again, it was a temporary measure... but just wanted to see if it worked over time and it did.

nice. what is the neck like? thin, comfy, clubby!?

I'd say it's pretty comfy. Thicker than the neck on my Squier Deluxe Strat (keep in mind, this neck is fairly thin), thinner than the neck on my Epiphone G-400.

I had the same sort of grounding issue with my AVRI Jag. My tech sorted it for $40.
