NGD - J Mascis Jazzmaster (MIJ) - Artist Series

Post by taylornutt »

I traded my CAR Comp-stang Reissue to get this guitar and it came in today. This is my first Jazzmaster and I am super stoked.

The quality on this instrument almost rivals my AVRI Jaguar. The Purple Sparkle paint job is gorgeous and the matching headstock just looks sick. The tuning knobs feel really solid. I love the finish on the neck. The neck is a little fuller than the AVRI Jazzmaster neck but in a good way. Intonation is spot on and all the switch and pots appear in great working order. These stock pickups are insanely good in all positions. It has one of the best middle position sounds I have heard on a guitar. Every modulation effect I tried sounded great. Trem arm threw it way out of tune but they were new strings. The guitar has good weight without being heavy. The thing I find really impressive is how good the guitar sounds strumming acoustically just sitting on the couch, no amp at all. It really resonates.

It's 7.25" radius so I know it's Robroe approved. All but one of my electrics are vintage radius.

So great! I hope, you will enjoy it. If it only is so good as my white jmjm and looks half as good as on the photos, it's a great thing. But i think it could even better than the squier jmjm... Congrats! 8)

Congrats. Love the sparkelz.

Didn't realise these were 7.25". The Squiers are 9.5" aren't they?

The Squiers are 9.5" radius and the trem plate is moved closer.

The MIJ model came first and the Squier model came later.

Squier make some awesome stuff but does everything have to be 9.5" with medium jumbo frets?

Anyway, am very jealous of your sparkly JM.

Congrats! Is there a story behind the 'star' added on the back of the headstock?

Aparently, the previous owner had J Mascis himself draw the star. I guess since it the signature already on it it didn't make sense for him to sign it again. He is going to get me a picture of it.

I really like the scratchplate, but I am considering blacking out the knobs and pickup covers like Sonic Youth did to their J Mascis Jazzmaster.

If all you had to do was trade your comp straight across, you got the better end of the deal.

Love the guitar!

These guitars are one of my favorites! Congrats dude! I played one months before they were released when a Fender rep came by the shop I worked at, I seriously am still holding out on getting one and it's been 6 years.

Love the guitar!
Except UPS charged me an extra $80 after the original owner paid to have it shipped from Canada. I need to call them again tomorrow.
