Astrophotography

Post by riotshield »

A friend of mine got me into astrophotography before a year or so. Its really exciting how many beautiful things exist in the sky that dont really notice. A basic dslr, a good evening sky and some patience can give some nice results

Any other fans of the starz?

those are beautiful.

I love to watch the stars, never tried my hand at photographing them proper like though..
plus, unless i'm out camping, just damned much urban light pollution around here to get anything worth looking at.

Nice! I've never been able to take pictures of stars with my dslr though, you got a specific lens you use?

Man, what a fulfilling approach to art.

I suppose you find a lot of time for introspective thought while capturing those cosmic fires.

Those shots were taken with a Canon 650D with a 50mm or 28mm lens and the moon with a 200mm tele lens. The main factor to be able to capture the stars is to be a very dark area with not bright lights nearby. Its almost impossible to take nice photos in the city unless there is no moon and the sky is really clear.

The whole process its quite relieving. The waiting under the star lit sky while taking multiple shots (sometimes 100+) or long exposures in the dark of the night mostly by yourself of with some good company is very calming.

Great photos Riotshield. The Moon one is especially beautiful.

Wouldn't have a hope of getting anything like that in London. It is never remotely dark.

Thank you! All of those were taken with a Canon 5DMKII and a broken old Canon 24mm 2.8.
