VOX Marauder on Ebay

Post by westtexasred »

You do see these too often (link) In fact I never saw one on Ebay. That one belongs to VOX collector I met online when I bought my VOX 12-string a couple of years ago.

Haha. I like it. I remember the VOX Marauder from this video

Jarvis's Maruader is like this one:

Fom the VOX Showroom at Northcoast Music:

"The Vox Marauder guitar was introduced in 1968 by Jennings Musical Instruments in the UK and was primarily sold on the European continent. This solid body six string instrument with a bolt on neck featured a series of battery operated electronic effects similar to those found in Vox guitars produced by Eko in Italy such as the Starstream, Grand Prix and Viper.

A linear row of six rectangular white push buttons actuated the battery operated effects. These were labeled "Treble," "Bass," "Top Boost," "Mid Boost," "Fuzz," and "Repeat".

A three position rotary selector switch near the lower cutaway toggled between three frequency centers for the "Mid Boost" circuitry. This effect was virtually identical to the "MRB" circuit developed for American solid state Vox amps.

A three position "quick action" flip switch was used for pickup selection. Three rotary controls adjusted the fuzz sustain, repeater, and volume.

An on/off switch, built into the volume control, was designed to conserve battery life. "

This. The first one looks like I made it (which isn't a good thing).

Looks like something a 14 year old would make in woodshop, get a C- for and then go "fuck yeah, that's a passing grade".

I think that the one on Ebay has a replacement pickguard.

Here are 2 all original VOX Maruaders from Martin Kelly's VOX history book

http://www.voxguitars.info/

The one like this has a VOX multiplay pickguard

Love it!

It looks like they took a strat and said, How can we make this look as misshapen as possible?

It looks much better with all the switches, they break the shape up somehow. The plain version looks like it's suffered a stroke.

Or they took a Phantom and tried to give it a "normal" shape.

I wrote the seller to ask if the pick-guard and been replaced and they sent me this message:

"Hi,

I thought the same thing when I got the guitar but was able to find a picture of one somewhere on the internet with the exact same guard as well as several other variants. Some that say Vox, some that say Marauder, some that say nothing and even a white one! It seems that with the Marauder and also the New Escort models, they were just using up old parts to finish the guitars so I assume that is what happened here although I can't be 100% sure. The guard certainly doesn't appear homemade or anything like that"

The real question is, would a passive version still have the battery cover on the back?
