NGD: VINTAGE VS6

Post by Freddy V-C »

I bought a Vintage SG copy today. Apparently it's called a VS6 and not an SG. WHO KNOWS WHY? NOT ME.

Second hand from Northern Guitars in Leeds. Asking price was £145, I bartered them down to £125. I probably could have gone lower if I hadn't have knocked over a sign on my way into the shop.

It shits all over pretty much every SG-style guitar I've played, which includes loads of Epiphones, a couple of other Vintages, a couple of Korean Tokais, an Aria and a couple of Gibsons. I think one of the Gibsons was nicer, but that was £575 and this was £125 so...

I don't have access to a decent camera right now, so for now here's a blurry webcam image. Pics to come later!

Man alive, but I love SGs; brilliant fun guitars. Like dicking around with a petrol strimmer. They also make me do an annoying guitar habit that I don't do if I'm playing any other type of guitar: if I play something that sounds particularly good, I'll slide up the neck and play exactly the same thing twelve frets up. You cannot imagine:
  • a) How annoying that is.
    b) How frequently I'd do it.

I've found myself bending notes a lot more often than usual, although I'm not sure if that's just the lower string gauge (11s going on there asap). I started cringing at my own playing in the shop.

They're great guitars, I had one for a while... and agree, they are better than the Epiphones and the like.

Same here, augmenting statement with DCs and pseudo-surfy tremolo-picked slides down an octave on the low E. Every time I've had a go on one for an extended period and pick up a Strat or Tele it feels like the sadist who invented high heels* had a hand in them.

*so I've heard, teehee

Yeah, is it a Vintage he plays/played, or an Epiphone?

The last couple of times I've seen them he's been alternating between two Squier Teles.

I've seen him with Vintages, Epis and a Gibson in one pic, maybe a loan from another band or summat.

Amusingly awful photo of him and all hahaa

I have ONE an ICON version (an oddball one too as mine has fretboard binding) so it's supposed to look a bit old and abused.
Great platform for mods too.

Do the tuners buzz on yours Freddy?

Mine doesn't get used too much now, I recently got a Gibson SG, but that's another story.

If it's the kluson style tuners then yeah mine buzz on my v100. I think I wiggled them about and can't really notice it now
