How to tame your bronco

Post by Berto »

i bought a fender bronco a few months ago and finally had a chance to plug it in to a proper guitar amp. No low end at all. Is this something all broncos lack? What should i do to mod it? Currently it sounds like a tele bridge with the mid and bass scooped

I wouldn't say the Bronco would need taming; the pickup is farther away from the bridge, relitive to a mustang, so would tend to be a little more mellow.
The pickups are essentially the same too.

he should be able to get some decent beef from that pickup, though. even if it is original and, therefore, a little mellower in tone, this sounds more to me like there could be a loose wire under the guard. a ground could easily be off or missing.

are you comfortable opening it up and inspecting the solder points?

i'll take another look at the solder points. I'm wondering if the cap is dead because when i turn the tone all the way down the volume drops significantly. it acts almost like a second volume pot

My Bronco is pretty damn bright and Tele-like. There's some low end that should be decent enough for most applications, but its the polar opposite of, say, a Jazzmaster's rhythm circuit.

However, it seems you're getting a undesirable thin sound. If the tone knob is attenuating your volume instead of rolling off high end, definitely take the time to check your solder joints. Is the tone knob doing any roll off at all?

The lead pickup from the Squier Mustang is certainly very useful by itself, and I mean for heavy stuff.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts
