To Kill A Circus - Roll up, Roll up EP

Post by JordanD »

Afternoon guys and gals,

My new band (first in many years) "To Kill A Circus" have released a four track EP and would love if you would give it a listen. We decided to pick the four most listener friendly tracks for the EP. We have some more stuff we will be recording later in the year that's a bit weirder/quirkier but we thought it best for the first thing people hear is our most "easy to listen to" stuff.

If you follow this LANK you'll be able to download a zip file containing the EP.

Please give any honest feedback as it helps us get better and see what people like.

For the purposes of my nerdy guitar friends, the following equipment was used :

The clean sounds are all straight out of a classic 50 with the top end and the mids pumped. Bass is around 11:00. This applies to all tracks.
All guitars were double tracked and use the same sounds aside from 'Roll the Dice'

Youngest Brother
MIJ 1966 reissue Mustang with no brand repro pickups. Pickups out of phase. Dirt comes from a 70's IC Big Muff with sustain maxed, tone at 13:00 and volume at around 12:00.

Rise to Power
CIJ Jazzmaster with AVRI pickups, both pickups on, straight into the Classic 50.
The chorus is from a first run small clone set to about 20:00

Production Line
CIJ Jazzy again, using only the bridge pickup. Phaser is a Black Russian Small Stone. The "thicker" sheet metal variant. Distortion from afore-mentioned Muff.

Roll The Dice
CIJ jazzy again on this. Double tracked as usual but on this, we have one guitar on both pickups and the second guitar track is bridge pickup only (you can really hear the top end when this kicks in). Again the distortion is from the muff.

Two days mate. Everything came together pretty easily and there was no desire to add stuff we can't play live.

Day 1 we did drums, bass and a couple of guitar takes

Day 2 we did the rest of the guitar and all the vocals and backing

Day 3 we mixed it and sent it to be mastered.

We had a great producer who was really easy going and just let us do our thing. It was the first time I've ever been in a proper studio. I've recorded stuff before but never like this. It was fucking great fun.

Very nice recording, I especially like the fullness of the bass. Good work!

Wow, sounds immense. Awesome 90s feel to the first track as well.

I'm now going to be shitting it about putting our stuff up. This is very impressive.

Aw man that's really nice, cheers. I'm glad you like it.

Yeah first track definitely has that 90s feel. It was all distorted previously and our drummer suggested we do the quiet/loud dynamic you hear (and has been done a million times).

I think my favourite track on there is "Production Line".

Again, cheers for taking the time to listen.

Good stuff Jordan. Liked tracks 1 and 3 best but they're all good.
