Research for the ultimate guitar.

For all non-guitar instruments; mandolins, synths, kazoos, and anything else musical that doesn't fit elsewhere.

Research for the ultimate guitar.

Post by Aug »

Alright...I've more or less designed a body and neck for my first original guitar (pics later) but, before I build I need some *SERIOUS* answers to some *SERIOUS* questions:

1. What electric guitar would you concider to have the BEST tone?

2. What elec guitar would you concider to have the BEST sustain?

3. What elec guitar would you concider to have the BEST elec setup?
-(knob positions, pickup combinations, input jack location, etc)

4. What elec guitar would you concider to feel the BEST when playing?

I'm not looking for debates, spam or even a discussion...just the facts.
Thank you in advance. :D

HSS Stratocaster.
best sustain?
Les Paul
best elec setup?
Probably a Gibson, but anything with four knobs and at least one switch is clearly good.
feels the best?
Stratocaster, or anything else with contours.

I haven't had experience with anything else really.

best tone?
Tele Deluxe because it's bright and Fendery but still heavy and Les Paul-ish
best sustain?
Les Paul
best elec setup?
Tele Deluxe and most Gibsons because they're out of the way but not too far out of the way that you can't get to them fast enough when you need to.
feels the best?
Stratocaster or Jazzmaster. I love all the contours on the strat body, and I love the way that offsets like the jazzmaster feel.

best tone?
Subjective, but I'm loving my Jag with series/parallel switching and JB Jr in the bridge.
best sustain?
*shrug* It sure as hell isn't my Jag. A friend's SG has great sustain, as does another friend's Vacaro.
best elec setup?
?? I guess my Jag wiring with each pup on/off plus series/parallel. I'd like to add another switch to change the bridge pup itself to series/parallel (JB Jr).
feels the best?
Definately my Jag, the whole reason I bought it. When my wife had her Jagstang it felt really great too (neck-wise), and the one upside-down Mustang I played felt pretty good neckwise also. Since other's have mentioned the Stang as opposed to their Jags I would assume then that those feel the best.
