RIP, Allen Toussaint

For all non-guitar instruments; mandolins, synths, kazoos, and anything else musical that doesn't fit elsewhere.

RIP, Allen Toussaint

Post by Doug »

An acquaintance on another Forum, who is caterer for Blues shows in NYC, shared her anecdote:

When I received Allen’s Hospitality Rider, I was surprised how little, and nonspecific it was. He requested, just dinner for about 14 people, wine, beer, Marlboro cigarettes and the usual: tea, coffee, Gatorade, assorted soft drinks water and ice.

A lot of other acts I catered for were very specific about what they wanted, sometimes to the point of ridiculousness. As my friend Sherman said “A genuinely warm and friendly man, devoid of ego and pretense.

Being a fan of Allen’s, I pulled all the stops, and served him and his entourage a Creole feast of Gumbo, Étouffée and Jambalaya with all the fixins’. Alan was very happy to have a little N’awlins in New York, and was more than appreciative. A true Gentleman, who will be mis
sed.
