White Warmoth Jazzmaster Project

Post by HNB »

Got this body as an impulse buy. I kind of want it as a sibling for my Black Moon Jazzmaster. This one will have humbuckers eventually. Since it is a Warmoth body, I had to modify it to take a Fender pickguard. (The neck and bridge pickups are a tad bit too high towards the neck. I used the router and shaved off the little bit needed. I also used a chisel to square the corners of the tremolo route. :)

Then I used some IKEA whitewash stain on it. Once it is dry, I will lightly sand it. I might do another coat depending on how it looks.

The back. I am going to let it dry and then lightly sand it and probably do a second coat and be done. (aside from clear coat)

Dig the blondiez. Why the squred-up trem cavity, is that just more Fendery?

Sometimes the tremolo can get caught or stick in the corners if it is rounded. Sometimes no biggie. :)

So I would not recommend anyone use that IKEA paint. I have been waiting two days for it to dry and it hasn't so now I am sanding it off. It is like rubber cement and comes off in gooey pieces. Looks like I will have to try another route.

The edges are going to need some sanding work to smooth, but the pickling stain I had has helped even it out and is drying non-tacky. Not perfect, but I am happier with the overall look.

I put on what will hopefully be the last of the stain on the back.

Dual WRHB with one volume (or maybe one TBX tone pot?)? Thoughts?

I actually was really digging all the white/cream going on. Just my opinion tho, the black guard looks good too.

I am torn because those parts are for the MJT project. I could do a similar color scheme, but I was thinking himbuckers or WRHB so the two white Jazzys are different.

the black will be cool as hell with those silver WRHBs. Keep it that way.

So new plan. :) I am going to cut the legs off of a set of Greco humbuckers and put them under Jazzy pickup covers. I will put foam on the left and right to help keep the pickup centered under the cover and I will put foam under the pickup so I can adjust the height just like a normal Jazzy pickup. As for pickguard, I am not sure what I want to go with just yet. Only thing I am worried about is how to best cut the legs off of the pickup without damaging anything.

Wifey picked this up for me. Should be able to easily cut off the pickup legs. ;)

Kinda big update. One of my guitars is heading to Austrailia. The money from it went towards one of these necks. ;)

Pickups came in today. The dremel tool worked great! Only issue I had was when I picked up the leg to throw it away, it was super hot (now I know) and burned the end of my middle finger.

Image20160406_201011 by Christopher Louck, on Flickr

But they look great now.

Image20160406_184037 by Christopher Louck, on Flickr

I put them inside Jazzy covers to see how they fit. Should just need some foam on the left and right to keep it centered.

Image20160406_184102 by Christopher Louck, on Flickr

Image20160406_184123 by Christopher Louck, on Flickr

I sat them in the covers and put them in the body to see how they sat.... Too high.

Image20160406_184737 by Christopher Louck, on Flickr

So I took my router to the cavities and now they sit just about perfect. I will put some thin foam under them like Jazzies usually have. My only worry is if the mounting screws will be long enough. I guess I can always try to find longer ones if it turns out that way.

Very stoked. The pickguard came in today. It is pretty unique. I got it on ebay from guitronics73. He named it "Cave Art." I thought it would go well with the white stain body and rosewood neck. :) It looks killer!

That pickguard reminds me of that guitar Narco made out of dinosaur poo.

...in a good way?
