Time for new project. Got a "Little Rebel" 2W ss amp kit around 6 months back. Thought it would be time for some soldering practice. Got it together - and in theory working too. More of that later.

Chassis kinda large, but thought it wouldnt matter as the speaker will need some room too.

Here´s the rebel itself.

Box is going to be something like this, albeit smaller and slightly simplified construction.

Leftovers from a lounge cabinet project last year. Pine.

Speaker, smallest Jensen there is. I like Jensen.
Image

Iron connectors cit from big rod I got for a few euros at the local scrapyard.
Image

Looking boxy.

Dangerous is fun, el-cheapo router that is.
Image

Better, but in need of finer shaping by hand.

Orbital sander and sandpaper by hand.
Image

After 90 mins of sanding time for blonde whitewash, sealer included wipe-on stuff. Its awesome for that white blonde look.
Image

It´s this seasons first nitro shoot! Was really cold outside, gotta beware of runs. Just really looked forward to this all winter.
Image

Nice, carried it inside to dry. Sanding and another layer or five next week.

Measuring is a good idea before drilling. Number means size of hole required. Thats good info when going crazy with a awesome drill.
Image

Pots look nicer this way, though a bitch to solder.
Image

Theyre ok.
Image

Insides are ok too. If they work.

To be continued...

The corners went over the top on the original, but I do see the logic of what you did: you built the cab around the chassis.

Looks nice.

Exactly. Top and bottom are ~2mm wider than chassis, height is only relevant to looks and required baffle size, which was tiny in this case. Chassis is gonna be screwed through side walls, two screws each side. It weighs very little, easy to fasten.

Thanks!

Baffle test fit. Ok.
Image

Quick sanding and laquer, plus repeats. Good enough, polishing will further smooth it out too.
Image

Time to fit speaker. Small and light.

Changed 386´s to JRC´s for that true vintage pre-war sound

It works. Had a tiny issue with volume. Was amateurish and misread schematic, fit regular jack to speaker out. It grouded to chassis. Now its a proper one and everything sounds ok. Can´t wait to put the thing together, lo mids are gonna be great from that wood box!

Actually there's a 5" speaker on their site.

Great job - a little blond for my liking but overall it looks good. How's it sound?

Like a dork I forgot this thread😬.

It sounds ok. It is very quiet, but goes crazy at max volume, feedbacks and stuff. I changed the chips to milder specced ones (forgot what they were, its been years) and I think it must be way under one watts of output. Would perhaps choose the Uraltone mini amp kit over this one if I started now, they are fine designs. The VHT micro 6 is superior in all civilised ways to this one; like comparing a tweed champ to a bassman.

Use it in my flat, no worries about disturbing the neighbours. Looks ok too. Blonde has yellowed a lot. Handle stays white.

I'm pretty impressed with the woodworking. It's become my latest obsession. You did a good job here.

Thanks, I really appreciate your kind words.

Woodworking projects for me are something that I tend to start with excitement, yet panic about what I’ve thrown myself into, and then just try to survive with all fingers. Sometimes the results are all right, sometimes bad, yet always learning a lot. I’m slowly realising that it will be a modest 80-120 years for me to be really really good on a regular basis. There are no threads about the ones that flew in the bin 🙈.

But learning is great; my biggest challenge is lack of patience, and woodworking and especially finishing have been a great help in that regard.

Maybe I'm a bit out of it, but that's a Musicmaster, friendo.
