Sorry about your depression. Templates are looking rad and that blank looks like my wet dream as here I can't get any hard wood(pun also intended), only pines.

I've tried to make my own necks but the whole process of making it for the first time was super disappointing as I messed up a couple of mahogany and maple blanks that had taken some time to be delivered, so I wouldn't rush the process and work on it when you really feel like it.

What's the story behind that beaten up bass neck?

I'm famous for not rushing this :P

I will eventually finish removing the rosewood and put on a new rosewood board. It's a laminated cap opposed to the slab so it'll take some doing.

Jaco Pastorius

I had defretted it, I asked my brother to smooth out the board a little, he over did it.

I didn’t want to sound like Jaco though, I was going for more of a Jah Wobble thing.

Looking good, Paul; the eventual pay-off will be worth the sticktoitiveness in the face of that dumb ol' black dog x

I see he found the brown note and his lifelong music quest is over. Feel happy for Mark

Welp, just killed it with my router. I was doing some cleanup work on the neck pocket and forgot to secure to router bit bearing…

There were other aspects of this build I didn’t love so when I start over I’ll go in with more knowledge than when I started.

I’m determined to pick back up on it over the next couple of weeks. I have three more blanks so, don’t look back I s’pose.

Good for you for looking at the silver lining 👍
Theoretically you can make a slightly bigger template for the pocket, route it a couple of mm deeper, plug it with a bigger piece and route it again using your original template. It'll be a punk rock geetar, not clean, but ready for a fist fight.

I’ll do something like that in the future.

Aw shit. I've been there, plops. It's gutting for something to go wrong after so much work beforehand. Takes me a while to get over a catastrophic failure like that but after some time and distance you can sometimes come back to it either with a strong idea of how to fix it, or with the motivation to start again from the ground up, and you're always at a better point than you were.
