I don't know why people insist on combos, a 4x10" cab with no amp is manageable even with closed back.

I would prefer a head and cab! Fender don't make many heads though.

Peavey made an amp with that kind of cab, plus 1x15" cab. Here's a link to an expired advert:

You can sometimes find just the cab.

Just because it's mildly pertinent (please forgive the Rob Chapman content)

Lightweight cabs with great projection and efficiency thanks to SCIENCE, made in the UK, not horrendously priced.

If I was gigging with a head, I'd be looking at one of these.

A bass player pal of mine (this guy, in fact) uses a Barefaced cab. It is definitely very loud and very light! New prices are a fair bit outside my price range, but I'll keep an eye out for a second hand one.

An update for anyone who isn't bored of me yet...

I've spotted a Super-Sonic 60 head for cheap, and I think I'm gonna go for it. I definitely prefer the flexibility of a head/cab, and was only really considering a combo because the options for Fender-style heads are so limited.

I think there's a 22 watt version of the Super-Sonic now, but the 60 watt ones were made from something like 2007 - 2015. Unsure on the year of the one I'm looking at. It seems to have been marketed mostly as a "high gain" amp, but the clean channel is switchable between a Bassman and a Vibrolux style circuit, with only 3 knobs (volume, treble and bass) and no reverb. Suits me down to the ground, I love simplicity.

Anyone wanna tell me I'm making a mistake, before I pull the trigger?

I've no experience other than the Super Sonic model on Amplitube3, super nice drive sounds for a Fender; I'd imagine this has something in common with the modern Bassmans. Bassmen.

Also, the geezer from Primus uses one.

That INTHEBLUES guy has a demo on YT, cranking the clean channel- it's mad loud but doesn't stay clean:

edit: hahaha, fucking robroed myself

It might no be the clean monster you want?

I mean, I don't mind some breakup. I'm not looking for Roland Jazz Chorus cleans or anything (in fact I borrowed one for a gig a few months back and fucking hated it).

This one is such a good price that I reckon I'll have no trouble making my money back if it turns out not to be what I'm looking for.

Coolcool, defo a cool amp, would love to try a real one some day (Palace Bonita tour aye?).

As discussed before, you can always improve headroom with the right choice of bias, speakers and powertubes.

I know you're a big Radiohead fan, so you'll be pleased to hear that Ed O'Brien uses one.

I think I'm gonna! The seller has agreed to hold it for me until the 24th (soonest I'm actually able to collect), so I just need to make sure I've got all my financial shit in one sock before then.

Also I'm unsure whether Tim is taking the piss re: Radiohead.

Generally I think they're pretty naff (although I cannot pretend I didn't have a big "phase" around age 17 lol ) but I absolutely 100% heavily fuck with In Rainbows.

That looks like one of those fake Chinese Gretsches, even has the same type of fingerboard markers.

Have no idea who that is either.
