Maple necks

Post by sunshiner »

I played a tele today with a maple fretboard with satin finish and despite the smooth finish the fretboard was sticky to the point it made it uncomfortable to play. Do you find maple necks to be always like that or do they break in/wear out with the time?

I have very dry hands and don't have an issue with my maple f/b Strat.

I have very sticky hands and love maple with a decent coat of finish or light.

much prefer rosewood or ebony, but the finishes i've gotten along with best in maple have been the more satin-y. this is weird because i don't much care for satin on the back of the neck. super glossy back of the neck will give me that sticky sensation (and i don't like it), but i have to admit i've never had a sticky fingerboard.

Yeah, I never had problems with gloss, and I do sweat some when I play. The only problem is if you don't wipe the dirt off of the back of the neck and it feels less glossy.

I know some Fender necks do have a glossy fingerboard and satin neck.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts
