Germanium diodes

Post by sunshiner »

Can they cause the same problems as germanium transistors do when they become even slightly hot? As I know many overdrives like Klon and MXR D+ use them for clipping. Do they ever cause problems like when Fuzz Face just go completely meh or germanium diodes are less susceptible to overheating than germanium transistors?

Not really, my knowledge is quite limited and I'm super lazy to educate myself. I'm just trying to figure out the problem that people much more knowledgable and smarter than me have tried to solve and probably solved. How I can get that mellow germanium clipping without germanium transistors and diodes. My short research suggests "You can't, bitch"

But you probably could build stuff, it's not that hard. You can just order some PC boards.

Germanium won't clip as much.
