Thanks for all the help and recommendations, but Zog's Gold Star goes to hurb who found me this fella in Edinburgh on Facebook market place.

Advertised for £600 but I got it for £500.

Ticking a whole lot of my boxes, lads I'm not gonna lie.
It's an old Classic Player Telecaster Thinline in a colour I never knew they made them in (Surf Green). Matches my Squier VM Jaguar perfectly.

I'm thinking about a mint/parchment guard to reduce the bling a tiny amount.
Has replacement block brass saddles (keeping) and locking tuners (most likely not keeping, the stock ones came with the guitar).

Will I go full wanker and replace the pickups with the stupidly expensive CuNiFe ones?

hooray! It looks lush mike. Definitely get shot of the locking tuners, should make some money back on those.

Bagsy the pickups if you change them :D

Yes I'm thinking the locking tuners will go and be sold
It also came in a Gator hardcase I don't need as I'm not often touring the world and already have two hard cases.

and sure, pickups are yours if I switch em

Looks great!

Mint guards often do a pleasing trick where there they look an off white colour, looking more parchment than parchment. Wonder if that still works on a green guitar, or will it just look super green?

Can confirm that mint guards look great on a surf green guitar. But also that a gold guard is what this beauty needs.

This is my Squier VM Jaguar. I got the mint green 3 ply guard way back in 2012 from ebay. It does that thing Paul said.

These days seems to be a bit of a minefield, I've seen some places advertising '72 Telecaster thinline guards and the pickup routes are for standard humbuckers...

Will need to do some digging, looks like a choice between waiting a month for one for £19 or paying more for one sooner. Will most likely wait.

There's definitely some variety between the thinline ones I've got, I suppose because there are original/MIJ/MIM/CIJ/MIA/Squier models floating around, there's nothing particularly standardised about them (the first one I got was always a bit stressed, second one better - I'll message you a link).

Didn't post my JM pic in here because I didn't want to flex too hard in your thread, see.

Normally love gold guards, but I'm not convinced that would look right. Any examples of gold on mint green?

I like the glossy neck.

Nicer against a bluer "green"; Fender's stock photos always seem to get the colours a bit "off"

Looks ace!

The pearloid guard is kind of weird in that it's quite obnoxious, but not that obnoxious. Mint or parchment would be the tasteful option, gold or something even more daft is probably what I'd do. But to be clear, mint or parchment is almost definitely the right choice.

Obviously if it was my guitar I would go into a fugue state and accidentally buy this:

If you're wanting shot of that hardcase, I could do with another one.

Nice one Mike. It's a early 2000s run Fender did. They also came in Shell Pink, and lake placid blue.

I think it's an older version of this one which is £79 new / £30-£35 second hand
http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-B ... r-Case/XVG

Not sure how much it would cost to ship it down:

Exterior Dimensions:
Length: 40.75'' / 1035.05mm
Width: 15.25'' / 387.35mm
Height: 5.25'' / 133.35mm
Weight: 9.4lbs / 4.27kg

Hermes (oh god) would do it for between £6-£10 it looks like

You'd be better off chucking it in a skip than send it via Hermes.

V true; I think that aesthetic works so well because of the pickups to break it up.

I like how this lad balances the maple with the chrome and green-blue; a case of not getting a super yellowy parchment/mint guard so it doesn't look too queasy in the way it does somewhat with your stock 'guard. With the yellow dialled back, with some terrible GIMP-ing, it all balances a bit better (imo, at least):
