Yeah that might a good shout. I tried a little renaissance wax on some scrap I tried the stain on first and it kinda lifted the stain off. So I am going to have to be careful.
It's a lot of work to get a lacquer style finish, but it seems to do something special to the grain. This is the thread I used as a guide. The poster "quarter" seems to be THE internet guitar tru-oil guru.

Ah cheers Paul. Yeah it does look like a decent chunk of work. I wonder if brushed on clear floor wax would work? I did that on my floor and its pretty hard wearing. I am not really fussed on a shiny finish I quite like the satin look it has so far.

If you want satin, I reckon Tru-oil is definitely the way to go. Getting it shiny is a lot of work, if you just want a nice oiled finish, a quick rub will sort you out. So to speak.

so I have put this project off for a while partly because of time, partly because I am waiting on parts and partly because I was scared of the next process.

So the black stain took ages to not be tacky, so I decided to give it a quick spray with some rustolem matt clear to seal it.
I then pushed silver gilding wax into the grain.

I then used olive oil(because I had some) to rub the gilding wax off the surface.

getting there!

That looks excellent.

But won't the olive oil go rancid?

Not if he tops it with Pecorino and some Pine Nuts.

so the black anodised guard came. All the way from Australia!
I also sprayed more of the matt clear and shielded everything...sans trem route!

All the guts turned up today so loaded up the pickguard. Will solder later

I also ordered some knobs...I was a bit worried they might be too small.

Will see how they grow on me. I like the style but they may just be too comedy large!

They certainly are nice to turn. worried they might get in the way a bit though.

Thoughts on spraying the tremolo black?
