Cheap And Loopy

Post by euan »

What’s a decent but cheap looper or will I just bite the bullet and get a Ditto?

Ditto has always served me well, recently upgraded to the +. With the + you can plug the looper into a computer and put recordings on to the pedal, or visa versa. Great for getting song ideas onto a computer, or putting recorded loops/samples/sound effects onto the pedal for live use.

There are probably plenty of Boss RC-2s on eBay since the RC-3 and RC-5 were released. Mine has served me well for years.

I've got a Ditto x2 that I'd sell/swap? Welcome to try before you buy x

(or not buy, I'm easy like).

I was going to say ditto but I also use Ableton and the laptop/interface to play over loops, mp3s, etc

There's a load of cheapo Donner etc. loopers out there which I gather are all functionally the same as the Ditto, if you're really looking for proper simple loopy times. The EHX 360 I had for a while was ace too, as it's also simple but gives you multiple save slots for your loops

I picked up the NUX Loop Core DELUXE which has savable memory, drum patterns, all kinda of trigger, record and playback modes; GREAT creative tool, I already wrote a few songs with it alone. It may well be a RC-5 copy, although I know the drum sounds/patterns are its own.

You could also get some Zoom unit with a bunch of effects and looper and drum rhythms.

Although I'm guessing the ones Doog is suggesting are cheaper, maybe not by a lot.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

Shad's got a cheapy looper pedal AVEC DRUMS (a Mooer Grooveloop, found a pic); I've heard a bunch of samples of it and it seems like a real nice addition to y'basic looper:
