Seems like a solution looking for a problem... there'll be someone who swears by them.

Particularly the natural electrical property of guitar cables cause the characteristic cable tone. Neutrik’s timbrePLUG provides the possibility to change the timbre of your guitar sound from neutral, clear sound to warm characteristics in 4 steps by turning a knob on the plug. A wide range of new sounds opens.
As brilliant as simple.
If that wasn't enough..

This is a joke, surely?

I assume it just adds capacitance to replicate long, cheap warm, vintage cables?

You get the same bullshit with fancy hi fi cabling.

Can’t hear the difference personally, but I might just have cloth ears.

This is all Eric Johnson’s fault. Dude thought his Fuzz Face sounded better without the baseplate screws and that certain pedals have to be cocked at a 45-degree angle and elevated an inch above his board on a block of wood, etc... don’t know if he ever cited a specific benefit to this, just that it was important.
There’s no way he hasn’t had techs over the last 30 years who don’t occasionally think “god this guy‘s a dick sometimes...” while they’re setting up his stuff and worrying about botching his tonal feng shui.
