Small Stone or Phase 90?

Post by ElCapitan »

I want a phaser and I've heard good things about both pedals, but my local music shops only stock boss and nothing else so i can't go trying one or other out. What do you guys think?

I don't really like phasers, but the Small Stone has a rep for being really good. You can check MF for sound samples too, or the manufacturer websites. I own a DOD 201 which is the same as a Phase 45, it is very subtle, a Phase 90 is the same thing just more intense. I think EVH used one. Personally I vote for the Small Stone.

but listen to sound clips like pen pen said

Scroll down and click on a name to listen to clips of the small stone

i couldn't find Phase 90 clips, but i admit i didn't look very hard

Cheers. Yeah Musicians Friend has sound clips for both and The Small Stone sounds more organic and sort of similar to the Small Clone - that wobbly watery sound.

I've got a sovtek small stone, it sounds good and is well sturdy, but I found it a bit one dimensional after a while and I hardly ever use it these days...

Behringer Vintage Phaser. Mine was about ?25 brand new, and it sounds pretty good. Covers my phaser needs anyway.

True. I bought it back in the days when I wanted to sound like Billy Corgan, but ended up only using it for a couple of songs...
I tried using it on a really low setting as a chorus when my clone was bust, but it didn't really work...

That sounds pretty cool. How much does it cost to ship stuff from the USA?
Also, what sort of condition is it in? I've seen it in pics of your board, but that was ages ago.

It has like one paint scratch. Still has the original battery in it, WITH JUICE, because it's never run off anything other than adapter.

Cool. I've never received stuff from the states, what does the shipping involve? Don't I have to pay import duty or something?

You pay VAT depending on the marked value of the product. If you want to avoid this, you have to declare it as a gift, but that means you can't insure it over $20 or something. If you want it ensured properly, you'll have to pay the tax, and that means 17.5% off the value you'll be paying or so.
