ive been looking for a new distortion or fuzz pedal, so far my first choices are a big muff, double muff, or a boss ds-2. are these good choices? i currently have a hot head but it doesnt have that much distortion to it so im lookin for a new one.

As far as i know the double muff is neither and the DS-2, well....... So i'd say Big Muff out of your choices.
You could consider a RAT, MXR Distortion + or even an Ibanez FZ-7. Try some out at your local store.

What kind of music are you playing and what sounds are you after?

Yeah, the Double Muff is a gnarly overdrive and suits tube amps a lot more than solidstate amps, from what I've heard.

The RAT is a Marshall-y kinda sound, the Big Muff Pi is more of a thick wooly blanket of fuzzy distortion, not as much midrange as the RAT and has a more gated sound.

Those would be my two choices, specially on a solidstate amp.

a few inexpensive fuzzes that I like:

dod fx52 classic fuzz
boss fz-3
guyatone tz-2 (kinda noisey though)
ehx little big muff
i thought the ibanez fz-7 was pretty decent too.

I would second a vote for a RAT2.
