Rodent Control

Post by Doog »

So, my RAT started off as a normal RAT2. Then I did the Rutetz mod (which takes out one of the resistor-cap pairs for less gain and a fuller tone). Then I put a bedside lamp style push button inline with a new 47k resistor inside the pedal to switch from stock to Ruetz mode.

Phase 4 is this:

I'm basically planning to replace the resistor with a pot of same/similar value, replace the pushbutton with a footswitch and rehouse the whole thing.

Am I missing anything silly here? Will I find a suitable housing? Will I stab it with pliers and throw it out my window? TUNE IN FOR THE NEXT EXCITING EPISODE!

Enclosure and pots ordered, yo.

Ended up having to settle for 1K linear and 4k7 logarithmic to replace the 47ohm stock resistor, but I figured 47ohm is gonna be at some point on both pots (possible easier to dial in on the log. pot), plus it'll give me even more resistance to push the RAT into nastier and gainier territories.

Just found a spare Jagstang/Stang knob which will be going on the boost pot, I can't be bothered forking out a fiver for a whole set of 4 dials :D ..unless I can lay my hands on a 4th RAT knob..

Looking forward to the possibilities, Doog. It looks like we're moments away from experiencing a pumped mouse.

Thinkin' about a goofy name for it, but I might just leave it nameless to keep it classy and mysterious.

It's gonna one these:

..much like the Blender clone I sold to Hurb. I wasn't gonna paint it, but I like the white/black/red stylings in my artist's impression, I might have to "get my brush on"..

Looks wicked mate! You're labelling it boost? I would have labelled it Gain Balance/Bass Boost - see much catchier! Keep up the pics.

Yeah we got a sleet blizzard then nothing but frost.

House it in cheese for the extra Rat factor, Parmesan would be suitable.

Hahaha, a big Tom & Jerry-style triangular slice of Swiss cheese, that'd be rad.
