Guitar synths?

Been realizing lately that I like the concept of a synth, but having more of an adeptness with the fretboard than the keys... Particularly, the Roland GR-20 interests me, as it seems to be the one I can afford (unless anyone points me in the correct direction). And yeah, I'm a n00b. -Does it work be...

...Mustang trems really have a great, slick feel and a ton of range... My fave trem :) The Jaguar trem is... Ok, range is a bit less than I'd like but it's super solid... The important part being that it allows low string tension, and makes a guitar... Sound like a Jaguar, or JM. I could eternally d...

Oh wait, you have a Melvins av.

:)

Heard guy played a Stang at some point, though don't know for sure... David Scott Stone (sometimes backup guitar live) used a stock-ish CAR Jag...

We'll see about the intonation... frankly it could never intonate properly with the 22" neck either, so if it's still slightly off... I'm no further ahead or behind. It' measures precisely 12" from 12th to bridge though... so it's a good sign. I'm gonna have the pro's handle the intonatio...

...Non-reverse Firebirds are, IMO, among the ugliest guitars in creation. Original Firebirds, with the original magnet-poled minihums, are cool, if ridiculous and hard as fuck to play. Schecters with fake neck-through stylings don't fare much better with me. The Malikaster would have looked cooler, ...

...Do Jagmaster necks of any scale intonate at all when coupled to RI Duo bodies, given the fact that those are two of the wonkiest, most non-standard necks that Fender has ever produced? Also, is the Jag plate actually above the pickguard, or is it just shimmed up with washers? As long as i...

People tend toward just wrapping them with electrical tape, but I've never found it necessary... Especially on the Mustang.

...That was such a cool color before :? Anyway, I'd probably put the switches in a line between the knobs... For aesthetics, and as they'd seem too bunched up in the configuration you show them in... Plus it could be logical, in a front/back way. Don't be afraid to hog out the wood for the potshafts...

Alternatively, you can raise the bridge and shim the neck to increase the break angle, which will stop string jumping by some minute amount...

The Jag/JM trem is stable enough even without disabling it, but I often wish it had the range of a Stang...

...I would want a P90 in the thing in the same way that I would want a P90 in a flattop, which is to say, not at all. 8) I tend to use my acoustics for serenading on a small scale, prefering a clean solidbody tone for more sensitive/loud moments in larger venues, so I'd be looking for the acoustic t...

...Yes, especially ridiculous when you consider how cheap a parts/70s Mustang will go for these days...

At this rate, there's no reason really to buy a new RI over something relatively vintage :?

Not really, the frets close in much more on a short scale and the difference in width is 3mm. It may not sound a big deal but it is. I can certainly feel a difference to the point it changes the way i play. It aids some techniques but hinders others. Point is, no one complains about making a C# cho...

...God, you're kidding me. That's my dream Mustang. I like Jags about 10x better, but the look of those is just right on, and that one has the look more than any other.

For an LP... :?

Hah, too bad the only thing I'd trade for it at this point is probably my 66, non comp Stang

i can't explain this very well, but i was able to get my mute to work by setting the trem lock so that when both were ingaged it was the same pitch as when neither were engaged, i believe the intonation was effected slightly but not by much. ...I know what you're talking about, and I've also had th...

Ehh, as I've said before... Looking at humbuckers mounted on a Fender pickguard without the ring, and seeing the usual gaps around them is worse than staring up someone's nostril.

If you HAVE to do Gibson buckers on a Fender, they ought have rings. 8)

But they should be chrome rings at least... :P

Also occurs to me... On a shorter scale, with strings already being more noodly, a smaller radius probably doesn't limit bending as much as it would on say a Strat...

With my current setup, I'd still have to raise the bridge and shim the neck to fit a mute even placed for aesthetic reasons.

Honestly? I'm glad Fender keeps/kept them on the heel.

I wonder how many idiots have been thwarted from messing with them unnecessarily by not having them there accessible, tempting them.

I hate the way my Jag looks without a mute. That said, I don't want to deal with fucking with the setup and drilling into it to get one. Though I've heard heavier guage strings don't get bent sharp by them so easily? Fuck if I know, I've only played around with them in five minute spans, I just like...
