Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany

On the body originally or on the oil finish? On the body originally, then yes (obviously, hence it not looking like whatever cheap wood the body was made from). http://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-traditional-interior-wood-dye-dark-mahogany-250ml/p/0315776 On the oil finish on the neck (and the varnish...

Re: Guitar woods and tone

It's all bullshit.

You don't even need pickups. I took mine out and it sounds just as good (possibly better). Try it. This is a cheap mod that guitar companies hate.

Re: NGD Tomson Mustang copy

That's quite clever. The saddles are nuts with a grooved, circular outer, so can be placed at any spacing. Clever manufacturing, that. I doubt they would roll. I doubt the tangential force acting on the saddle's outer edge is enough to overcome the friction at the thread. I'd imagine the sum of the ...

Re: NGD Tomson Mustang copy

Also kind of love it.

I thought the headstock said "INDOOR SERIES" which excited me. Thoughts of some sort of "OUTDOOR SERIES," possibly involving gore-tex.

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany

I know tru-oil isn't teak or tung, but I followed the advice in this thread: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/how-do-you-get-a-high-gloss-from-tru-oil-finish.711780/ when I made this kit: http://www.shortscale.org/viewtopic.php?t=64337 The poster "Quarter" in the TGP thre...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany

Oh no, they got it backwards etc.

Looks great. I'd be interested to see how the mahogany looks when finished too. I used tru-oil on a guitar a few years back and it darkened up nicely. Feels great, easy to use, looks great.

Re: NGD: Squier Jazzmaster

The first time I looked in this thread I thought this was great looking, but that the headstock spoiled it. Now, each time I click into it I like the headstock a little more. I think if there was some way of tying the headstock colour to the body you'd be onto a winner. Grey knobs and covers? Maybe ...

Re: Project: Player Jaguar in mahogany

$100 for "upgrading" from maple to mahogany doesn't sound like all that much. I'd have thought it would have been a good bit more.

I suppose the most part of the money is in the work, rather than the wood.

Re: NGD! Yamaha SGB-500, Cherry Red

P-90s and humbucker tones in an SG makes more sense to me than in a Jazzmaster, but that could be cool.

Plus, it's the hipshot pickup rings that really make the pickups. I suppose there's no shortage of space for individual switches on a Jazzmaster, but that's a whole other job.

Re: NGD! Yamaha SGB-500, Cherry Red

I feel like I'm always saying this on here (but people keep ignoring me, so I'll keep at it): Get some P-rails. And then get some of the hipshot mounting rings. Faffy, but so many good sounds: Excellent PAF with both coils in parallel Excellent P-90 Very good hot/compressed/squished PAF with coils i...

Re: pictures of your gear here

The blue tooth multistomp is pretty annoying actually. I thought it would still have the usb input like the others but it's only blue tooth and it only works with apple stuff. That is bizarre. Making a super value led anti booteek pedal, but then only having it function if you buy one specific, pri...

Gorgeous indeed. I generally like my acoustics super plain looking, and think that blinged out ones look terrible. This is probably as much bling that you can put on whilst still looking great.

I think I sort of dismissed it when I was about 16, but understand they're well thought of now? I suppose the old ones will go up in price now too.....

Re: All your gear, ever.

I don't think my lists would be as long as any of yours, but then I tend to hold onto my guitars. So my list of currently owned would be pretty long. (probably 30 odd, dunno, half of them are still with friends/parents since I moved to England). My list of amps is much shorter, because I've always s...

They might sound cool, and it's probably good that there is more cunife to go around, but they are terribly ugly.
