Centre positive/Centre Negative?

Post by ekwatts »

What's that all about, then? Can I power centre pos and centre neg pedals off the same power pack?

Yes. but you need the right adaptor for the right pedal. Most pedals have boss-style 2.1mm centre negative supplies. Look at the sticker/manual for each pedal.

The voltage and current is the same the DC is just applied to the reverse parts of the jack between the two modes.

Going to make any more threads about your sodding Power supply?

I'd imagine your powersupply has a few of those adaptor thingies for reverse polarity pedals.

What Mike said. If you get it wrong you'll notice sparks. Or at least I did when I made my FL301 DC power bodge.

I imagine that's why he made the thread.

Wouldn't the inclusion of both polarity jack convertors with his unit be obvious enough?

or at least I'm thinking he saw centre negative and positive, thought "What happen?" and didn't know which to use for his peds.

I was happy to find that a good chop-n-flip of a simple DC cable allowed me to run my positive-tipped Maxon AD-900 and Blue Box off of the Voodoo Lab PP2...The one the huge brick came with got lost early on.

Exactly, it's just which part of the jack plug is connected to +9V and which is ground. You can reverse them on the cable at any point to achieve the correct polarity.

Don't touch that.

It's a ground lift. Ungrounding tube amps = dangerous.

I would set it to 1.

I couldn't find more information I'm afraid. LDC would be worth a PM, he's a fender amp expert. Him and filtercap.

Right... ok, well, my Adrenalinn is centre positive, while the rest of my peds are centre negative. So I'd use the red convertor with the Linn? It's tip positive/barrel negative.

I just got confused with the tip vs. centre etc difference in descriptions, and didn't want to plug anything in before I knew in case it exploded MY FACE OFF.

Gosh, it's exciting being able to power all my pedals from one power supply!
